CHICAGO – A suburban man is facing a host of charges for allegedly threatening a Cook County judge electronically and during an open court hearing.

The alleged threats began nearly a year ago, on Dec. 20, 2023, when Daniel Land allegedly threatened to kill Judge Lori Rosen and warned she would go to jail during a Zoom court hearing, according to a criminal complaint.

Rosen handles domestic cases from a courtroom in the Daley Center.

Complaints filed by prosecutors say Land sent “numerous” emails to Rosen’s courtroom on Jan. 16, accusing her of conspiracy to commit criminal offenses. During another Zoom hearing that month, he allegedly threatened to kill the judge again and accused her of “aiding and abetting” a child kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder, according to the complaints.

More recently, according to a complaint, Land left two voicemails with the Illinois Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission in August. Among the “numerous” threats was one where he had “jurisdiction.” [sic] to blow your damn brains out for me,” the filing said.

Land is charged with four counts of threatening a government official, four counts of intimidation by threat of physical harm, two counts of intimidation with threat of murder, and one count of cyberstalking by electronic threat.

He is currently being held in the Cook County Jail. A detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
