Less than two weeks after Cook County Sheriff’s Police arrested Vincent Jones for allegedly having a gun on the Red Line, his release went up in smoke on Monday when they arrested him again at the same station — this time for allegedly carrying a portable cannabis dispensary in his backpack. And yes, it happened on April 20th.

Jones, 27, first crossed paths with the sheriff’s new transit patrol on April 7, when officers stopped him at the 69th Street Red Line station for playing loud music on a portable speaker. They detained him for disorderly conduct, and a search of his belongings turned up a loaded firearm, according to the sheriff’s office.

Prosecutors charged him with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number and asked Judge Deidre Dyer to hold him, arguing that someone carrying a firearm on public transportation was too dangerous to release. Dyer released him pending trial.

Thirteen days later, Jones rolled back to the 69th Street station on the holiest day of the stoner calendar.

Around 7 p.m. Monday, sheriff’s police officers spotted Jones crossing between train cars in violation of CTA rules, officials said. When they searched his backpack, they reportedly found almost 80 grams of suspected cannabis, rolling papers and a scale.

Prosecutors charged him with manufacturing and delivering cannabis, disorderly conduct and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jones likely won’t be back at the 69th Street Red Line station anytime soon. On Tuesday afternoon, Judge James Murphy III arrested him for violating the terms of his pretrial release in the ongoing weapons case.
