Chicago – It is not every day we can tell you that someone is being accused of carjacking a driver while a police car chicago police squad was in the spotlight. But today is that day. And the accused man is the 29-year-old Datilion Kelly.
Kelly met a 21-year-old man online, and they agreed to meet on Monday around 9.30 pm to “sail together and to consume cannabis in the [21-year-old’s] Vehicle ”in the 5400 block of South Hoyne, said a CPD report.
While they were hanging around in the parked car of the victim, a CPD tactical unit saw the vehicle stationary with its headlights, so the police moved their spotlights on, the report continued. As soon as the officers illuminated the Nissan stairs of the victim from 2025, Kelly pushed the victim out of the driver’s door and then slid behind the wheel.
Kelly dragged the victim for a short distance and then designed the police for a few minutes before bumping into a parked car in the 5100 block of South Winchester, according to the report. Officers found Kelly Wechen in the 5000 block of South Damen and arrested him after the victim confirmed that he was the hijacker.
According to Kelly’s arrest report, he had the recipe bottle of the victim, earbuds and vape pen. The police found a gun between two parked cars near Kelly. Justice officers said that video showed him that he made a “throwing movement” to the area where the weapon was found. They also said that Kelly used the gun to pistol the victim in the forehead during carjacking.
Legal reports show that Kelly has had a probationary period for a crime possession of weapons since September. He is now accused of hijacking vehicles, worsened battery and theft.
Judge David Kelly granted the detention of the state.
