CHICAGO – Just three months after he was put on probation for trying to carjack a woman on the Northwest Side, Andrew Moran is back in jail, accused of trying to carjack another woman on the Northwest Side.

You may remember Moran, 27, from our story last year. His attempt to carjack a woman in the 4800 block of North Milwaukee failed because he became confused by the gear shift. He then ran away with the victim’s keys and police tracked him down by tracking the AirTag on her key fob.

On Aug. 7, he pleaded guilty to attempted hijacking of a vehicle and aggravated battery on a peace officer, court records show. Judge Anjana Hansen gave him two years of mental health probation.

Now, prosecutors say Moran attacked and successfully carjacked another woman at the Shell gas station, 4001 North Laramie, in Portage Park.

About 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 7, the third month of his guilty plea, Moran approached the woman at the gas pumps and announced a robbery, according to a Chicago police report.

“You know what this is, give me your keys, bitch,” he allegedly demanded.

Moran chased the woman into the gas station convenience store, pinned her to the ground, grabbed her keys and then drove away in her 2010 Lexus RX350, the report said.

A Chicago police officer recognized Moran from gas station surveillance footage. He turned himself in when he learned he was wanted in connection with the crime.
