Man checks brother's apartment after security alert and is shot by burglar

A Colorado man was shot early Saturday as he checked his brother’s apartment after a security camera alert — and ran straight into an armed robber who pulled the trigger and ran.

The 25-year-old shooting victim lives in the same Thornton apartment complex on East 104th Avenue as his brother, who was not home at the time. ABC 7 Denver reported.

But when the security system alerted the absent brother to movement outside his unit around 2:40 a.m., he called and asked his sibling to watch.

The unidentified victim walked into the home and saw the suspect, who quickly pulled out a gun, fired at least one round and fled with undisclosed valuables, Thornton police said.

Authorities rushed him to the hospital and he is expected to survive. The suspect is still on the run after the terrifying encounter.

The security camera captured photos of the shooter, who was last seen wearing a black mask, gray sweatpants, a black sweatshirt and what appeared to be a black puffy vest.

Police believe this is an isolated incident, but have asked anyone with information to call the Thornton Police Department tip line at 720-977-5069.
