A man was deadly shot on Friday afternoon in a South Side Smoke Shop, but one of his murderers was also shot, the police said. Now the police have the wounded suspect in custody, while his potential accomplice remains free.
It all started as an argument between the victim and two men in City Smoke, 7050 South Damen, around 4:24 PM
The situation then escalated a 38-year-old man a gun and opened fire on the 42-year-old victim, hit him in the chest, head and back, according to a police statement in Chicago.
Both suspects had disappeared when the police arrived, but the police found the shooter shortly later when they responded to a “person’s shot” call in the 7100 block of South Bell. They found the 38-year-old there with a shot wound on his left hand, according to provisional information. Exactly who the suspect shot down is unclear.
Researchers assessed surveillance video and confirmed that the man on Bell was involved in the shooting, a source said.
In the meantime, the second perpetrator fled to the west at 71st Street. According to an officer who saw the store’s surveillance video, he had braids and wore an olive green or camouflage hoodie and blue jeans.
