CHICAGO – A Chicago man has been given a 20-year prison sentence for shooting three people, including a 5-month-old boy, in Old Town while he was on probation for a gun case.
Teantun Davis, 25, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery by firearm in exchange for Judge Aleksandra Gillespie’s sentence. He must serve 85% of the time, making him eligible for release in July 2037.
The baby was in a stroller when Davis jumped out of an SUV and fired more than a dozen shots through the 1400 block of North Hudson on July 16, 2020 around 7 p.m. A bullet grazed the boy’s eye and the two men Davis allegedly intended to shoot, ages 19 and 25, survived gunshot wounds to their extremities.
Officials said the shooting was captured on video, but a tight-fitting hoodie hid Davis’ face. However, the police were quickly able to determine the description and license plate of the getaway car.
Chicago police officers soon spotted the vehicle as it entered Lake Shore Drive at North Avenue. They began following the vehicle, which collided with a police car near Roosevelt and Lake Shore Drive and later crashed in the 3900 block of South Princeton. After the crash, CPD officers arrested Davis, but the getaway driver escaped. A second person who police say was arrested at the scene was never charged with wrongdoing.
Davis allegedly ditched a stolen gun while trying to run from officers. Forensics linked it to shell casings recovered from the crime scene, prosecutors alleged.
Prosecutors dropped 20 additional felonies, including 15 attempted murders, in their plea deal with Davis.
