A man wanted on suspicion of vehicular eluding was injured in a shooting with Denver and Golden police during a foot chase near West Colfax Avenue and Pierce Street in Lakewood on Tuesday.
Lakewood police first contacted the man Tuesday morning because he had an arrest warrant for felony eluding, department spokesperson John Romero said in a briefing, but he fled the area.
Lakewood agents, along with Golden and Denver police officers on the Colorado Metropolitan Auto Theft Task Force, tracked the man to an apartment complex near West Colfax Avenue and Pierce Street, near Casa Bonita and an Arc Thrift Store.
Police made contact with the man at around 4:15 p.m. and he fled on foot. Police are not clear on what happened next, but the man had a gun in his hand when he was shot by Denver and Golden officers, Romero said.
He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. No police officers were injured in the shooting, Romero said.
The shooting is being investigated by the Jefferson County Critical Incident Response Team.
