CHICAGO – Prosecutors have charged a Chicago man with robbing a woman on the CTA just 11 days after he was put on probation for robbing two other people outside a CTA station.
In addition to those robberies, Isaiah Turner was also arrested on Feb. 5 for theft while he was a minor, prosecutors said in a detainer request, which Judge Antara Rivera granted.
On St. Patrick’s Day, Turner and two juveniles were arrested after allegedly implying they had a gun while demanding property from a man and woman outside the Austin Blue Line station in Oak Park, court records show.
He resolved that case by pleading guilty to aggravated robbery on August 27. Judge John Wellington Wilson sentenced him to two years of probation, according to court records.
Just eleven days later, on the evening of September 7, Turner allegedly implied he had a gun when he robbed a 24-year-old woman of her purse, phone and AirPods on a Blue Line train near the Western station on the Near West. Side. Turner punched the woman in the face and lifted his shirt, suggesting he had a gun, Judge Rivera noted in a detention order.
A CTA surveillance cameraman provided police with descriptions of the suspects, and police spotted Turner nearby, dressed in all black and wearing a black ski mask, according to a Chicago police report.
According to the report, he took off when police tried to stop him, but police caught up with him. They allegedly found AirPods in his possession that identify themselves as “Lisa’s AirPods Pro,” the report said. The robbery victim’s first name is Lisa.
Rivera’s detention order said Turner is also on juvenile probation for aggravated battery. It is unclear whether this is related to the robbery case in February.
