CHICAGO – Prosecutors have charged a North Side man with robbing a victim in Lincoln Park and breaking into a home in Wrigleyville less than two hours later.
Lavan Rousseau, 27, of Edgewater, was arrested by Judge Deidre Dyer after prosecutors laid out the charges.
The robbery happened in the 2400 block of North Clark around 12:51 a.m. on Sept. 25, according to Chicago police records. Rousseau knocked a man to the ground with a punch to the face and took his phone, prosecutors said in an arrest request.
Just under two hours later, around 2:45 p.m., a 45-year-old woman heard a noise in her kitchen in the 3800 block of North Kenmore. When she investigated, she found Rousseau standing in her home with the back door open, according to a CPD report.
“I am the property manager,” Rousseau allegedly told the woman. She grabbed her son, ran out the front door and called 911.
Police quickly arrived on the scene and established an area around the woman’s home. They arrested Rousseau on the second-floor porch, the police report said. Prosecutors said he tried to take a laptop, clothes and a wine bottle before officers took him into custody.
He is suspected of theft and burglary.
CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original public safety reporting with better context and more detail than mainstream media. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
