CHICAGO – Postal inspectors are asking for help identifying the man who robbed a postal worker in Bridgeport Saturday afternoon.
Video doorbell shows what happened in the 400 block of West 38th Street around 1 p.m.:
A postal worker climbs the stairs to deliver mail to a house, while a man who had been walking next to him lurks on the sidewalk. As the postman heads towards the next house, the lurking man pulls out a knife and points it at the postman.
The postman reacts quickly, backing away from the attacker and shouting, “Get away from me, man! Get away from me! Get away from me!”
No injuries have been reported.
The US Postal Inspection Service announced this on Monday asked anyone with information about the crime to contact them confidentially at 877-876-2455.
Last week, postal inspectors offered a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading them to men who robbed other postal workers in the city:
- According to the USPIS, a robber was confronted by a letter carrier in the 6200 block of South Evans on Thursday, November 14 around 4 p.m. After robbing the mailman, he fled toward 63rd Street. Here are some photos of this suspect.
- On September 30, around 6:40 p.m., someone robbed another mail carrier in the 7700 block of South Laflin. Researchers this photo released of the suspect’s car, but no images of the robber have been released.
Robberies of postal workers have been a major problem in the city in recent years. The employees are usually targeted for their master keys, which are then used by highly organized crime gangs to steal mail and, from there, financial information and identities.
