A maniac with 20 earlier arrests and hate crimes on two women’s werd because he randomly pushed a 70-year-old grandmother in Los Angeles against the wall of a Midtown metro station this week, according to police sources and the victim.
Sherlock Arana, 37, from the Bronx, Janet Parvizyar, 70, is said to have attacked on Monday in the Lexington Ave/53rd Street Station around 10.30 am, while the unsuspecting LA-Inwener enjoyed the second to the front day of her trip to the Big Apple, where she was a friend.
“I don’t understand, why did they let them go like that?” Parvizyar told the function of the career criminal in an exclusive telephone interview. “I mean, they have to do something about this. He is going to kill someone.”
Arana is no stranger to crime on the rails – almost ten years ago he pleaded guilty of attacking two women in separate Queens metro stations because they thought they were of Indian descent, said prosecutors. At least one was actually Bengal’s.
“I hate the Indian people,” he was reportedly to one of the women he approached at the entrance of the Jamaica-179th Street Station on 5 January 2017 before he hit her in the back of the head, according to a criminal complaint. “Remove the F – K here.”
He was sentenced to nine months behind bars on a third -degree hate crime, according to the prosecutors. It was not immediately clear how much time he actually served.
The most recent of the almost two dozen earlier busts of Arana was in 2023 for a robbery, said sources for law enforcement.
In this week’s attack, Parvizyar ran on the underground path that led to Nr. 6 train station when Arana reportedly pushed her into a wall, causing her to hit her head and fell to the floor, the police said.
“I went to get the train and suddenly someone came to me and told me:” What are you doing here? “” Said Parvizyar. “And he pushed me to the window, and then the floor, without any reason, everything. And then he started running.”
Parvizyar ‘shocked’, she said the meaningless attack.
“I couldn’t think. I got confused,” she said. “I don’t know, I was very confused. I didn’t expect anything like that.”
“It suddenly happened. I didn’t see his face,” added the shocked victim. “But my friend saw his face. She started screaming and asked for help.”
Other good Samaritans tried to board the station, but it was too late – Arana fled the stage.
In the meantime, the mother of three and grandmother was also brought from three to the NYU Langone Medical Center for injuries on her head and neck.
Parvizyar is Iranian, but as soon as she heard about the criminal history of Arana, he speculated that he might have mistaken her for an Indian woman.
Eagle-Eyed Agents saw Arana around 6.45 am on Wednesday in the Lexington Avenue-125th Street-recognizing Metro station from a wanted Flyer-during while they carried out a station inspection, says sources.
The arresting agents also found a knife in the possession of Arana, according to the sources.
He was accused of abuse and intimidation, both in the second degree, the police said.
“I am so happy because I don’t want that to happen to anyone else,” Parvizyar said about the arrest. “I don’t want someone else to go through it.”
Parvizyar, who is now at home in Los Angeles, said that she had previously visited the Big Apple “many times” – but now it is reluctant to return and ride the rails.
