Meet paper sculptures aliens in these creepy animated short film – colossal

A day like any other takes an unexpected turn for the paper characters Shotaro Kitada And Hoji TsuchiyaThe new animation. The filmmakers worked together on a music video for a song with the name “Prime” of the Japanese saxophonist Tamoordi Baba’s 2024 -album, Electric rider.

Kitada and Tsuchiya built a world of paper cuts and sculptures and worked remotely to make the experimental short film, which never meets personally because of their geographical distance. Tsuchiya would often offer backgrounds by using Stop-Motion, then Kitada would bring his sculptures to life through live action techniques. The process required some initial trials and errors and eventually came together through improvisation, which compare the artists with a musical jam session.

“My three -dimensional works bring a sense of ‘reality’ about that drawings or computer graphics cannot replicate,” says Kitada, “Yet they evoke a sense of dissonance because of their uncomfortable movements, unique scale and homogeneous world.”

Related scenes of a gas station, a sheriff on a patrol or a duo playing chess on a couch are met with a touch of nostalgia and wooden movements, but as the film continues, people begin to disappear through inexplicable phenomena. A enigmatic, highly tense character and a mysterious drink may have something to do with it.

Digitally filmed, the video was transferred to film to improve the ‘tactile quality’ of the work, says Kitada. In some scenes we see a piece of fishing line that lifts a limb, while in other stop-motion figures allows you to move alone.
