By ink on Hanji Paper that combines deep blacks with delicate cross-crossing, surreal scenes unfold in the drawings of the Seoul-based artist Moonassi (earlier). Due to the dramatic use of Chiaroscuro And simple but elegantly defined faces, hands and limbs, the artist constructs drama worlds in which figures communicate and explore.
Moonassi’s use of meekA traditional Korean ink stick soil with water against a stone to produce a liquid results in a deep black medium that is reached by a meditative process. He refers to his work as ‘Mind Illustration’, which delves into the emotional and psychological ties between couples, small groups and extraterrestrial environment.

Recent documents such as “the same difference” investigate dualities such as opaitigheid and transparency, weight and lightness and unity and individuality. The compositions of Moonassi are often intrinsically introspective, because the figures interact with others who may or may not be versions of themselves or fabrications of their own imagination.
Repetition and scale play an important role in the work of the artist, such as in “Meme”, in which a central figure hangs on the ground and gently converts another small figure in their hands, which in turn does the same. At some point it realizes that the main character is also framed by huge hands, related to an alien Matryoshka -Nestpop. Moonassi’s scenes challenges our senses from perspective, presence, care and the spiritual world.
