From dozens of Chiquita banana labels to toothpaste packaging to color-coded quality control stickers, Kelly Kozma Find beauty in the daily Ephemea. “All of them, she keeps every colorful or textured box that they encounter, although most are expected to be thrown away after their original use,” says Paradigm Gallery + Studiothat opens the Solo exhibition of the artist View me backwards This weekend.
KOZMA takes an archiving and interdisciplinary approach to working with countless materials, combining a variety of media in two-dimensional wall works, extensive textile-inspired assemblies and voluminous suspended installations. ‘View me backwards Embraces ideas about reusing material, mutual connection and the meaning of the smallest interaction in a much larger environment, “says an exhibition statement.

“Iguana & Mirrh” and “Magma & Reef” mark the largest compositions that Kozma has created. The first includes 22 feet in circumference and consists of more than 30,000 hand -stitched circles cut from a wide range of greeting cards, packaging found and other colorful materials. The artist is dedicated to a minimal waste practice and absorbs scraps and loose threads in a number of accompanying works View me backwards.
“While she is approaching these lovingly collected pieces, Kozma creates connections between the people in her life and the objects with which she communicates, inspiring mindfulness against over -consumption and emotional apathy,” says the gallery.
