Mother charged after withdrawing from suicide pact with daughter

A Mississippi mother was arrested this week when her 10-year-old daughter overdosed on medication as part of a suicide pact the duo made.

Brittney Leigh Hensley’s bond was set at $500,000 after her arrest in Alabama. The Ocean Springs Weekly Record reports this.

Investigators said the mother and daughter made the pact on July 6 while staying at a Studio 6 Motel in Ocean Springs.

Police were called to the hotel just before 6:30 p.m. for reports of an overdose.

Police said Hensley’s daughter had already taken a bunch of pills by the time she started having second thoughts about ending her own life.

The pills were reportedly prescribed to Hensley.

The little girl was unconscious when police arrived. Police have not released her name.

Hensley fled Mississippi shortly after her daughter was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Knowing she had family there, detectives tracked Hensley to Huntsville, Alabama, where she was held on October 14.

She was extradited to Mississippi a few days ago. The police accused her of child abuse causing serious bodily harm.

Police said Hensley told them on July 6 that she had also taken pills, but did not specify how many or how long she had taken them, the Weekly Record reported.

Doctors said they expect Hensley’s daughter to make a full recovery from the overdose.
