Marisol Vazquez (Chicago Police Department, Multiplottr)

CHICAGO – Prosecutors have charged a woman with killing her one-year-old daughter in their Humboldt Park home on Dec. 20.

Marisol Vazquez, 37, is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing Saturday afternoon at the Leighton courthouse. Officials will present additional details about the charges in court.

Chicago police said in a media statement that officers arrested Vazquez on Thursday on a first-degree murder charge in the child’s death.

Officers responded to Vazquez’s home in the 500 block of North Springfield around 8 a.m. on Dec. 20 after a panicked woman called 911 and asked for help. EMS transported the child to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 9:35 a.m

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the girl’s death was a homicide by asphyxiation and assault, according to records.
