I like a good Flip telephone. Perhaps I am too influenced by the nostalgia of classic handsets from 2000, but something about them is still so cool for me.
In the modern folding telephone era, two brands dominate the Flip telephone conversation: Samsung and Motorola. The latter may not have the same influence as his Korean counterpart, but demonstrably prevails when it comes to devices.
Last year we arranged the Razr 50 Ultra, not the Galaxy Z Flip 6, as the best Flip telephone of the year. In 2025, Motorola introduced a whole series of upgrades for the new RAZR 60 Ultra with which it can compete with non-dragged flagship telephones, at least on the specification sheet.
And crucial is that hands-on time with the 60 ultra during the launch event in New York suggests that Motorola has expanded its lead as the best Flip phone you can buy. Here are the six biggest things that I have learned on the phone so far.
What a finish
Unique telephone finishes are nothing new for Motorola, but the Razr 60 Ultra brings things to the next level.
There are four to choose from, where the highlight is ‘Scarab’, a beautiful Alcantara finish that I was immediately attracted to. It is the first time we have seen the material on a phone, and I hope it is the first of many – the soft fabric is the perfect antidote for a metal or plastic phone. However, it attracts more dust and dirt than most telephones.
Equally striking is ‘Mountain Trail’, made from FSC-certified wood. I love the fact that natural materials are used on phones, and it is a surprisingly practical choice, adding grip and a useful extra protective layer. It also just looks very cool.

Camera -Down Grade? Think it over
For many people, the camera hardware on the RAZR 60 Ultra Inferior will be on the Razr 50 Ultra last year. While the 50MP main lens remains, Motorola has replaced the 50MP 2x telephoto photo with an ultrawide of 50 MP.
Of course, the visual field of 122 degrees is useful, and the first tests suggest that the image quality is broadly in line with the main lens. But at the expense of real zoom capacity? It is not a trade -off that most people want to make.
Motorola, however, has a solution …
The company claims that the Moto AI and its photo accounting engine can use to offer a 2x optical zoom effect using the main lens. I was skeptical, but after trying it out, I can confirm that 2x recordings are almost identical in quality up to 1x. Suddenly the lack of a telephoto lens doesn’t feel as much as a big deal.
And with the addition of the ultrawide, which also makes detailed close-up macro photos possible, the Razr 60-camera system from Ultra is much more versatile than its predecessor. I am not saying that it can compete with the best camera telephones there are, but early signs point to a nice upgrade instead of a downgrade.
Built -in AI, literally
In 2025, artificial intelligence is nothing new. In many ways, the new Moto AI on the RAZR is 60 Ultra represent Motorola that catches up with the competition.
However, something that you do not find on another phone is a special physical button for the function. The Moto AI key is on the left side of the device and offers easy access to the company’s series of the company.
Although I am not a huge fan of AI on telephones, offering such easy access to important functions is much more logical than to hide away. People will ultimately use Moto AI, including a number of really useful functions.
Existing functions such as Catch Up (summarizes missed calls and reports together, note (start audio recording and transcription) and remember this (creates screenshots, photos and notes for later recall) can all be useful.
However, the next movement places intelligent AI functions at the front and in the middle. It can recognize the content on your screen and offer intelligent suggestions, whether it is about storing important details or further research into the perplexity AI integration.
You can also use it to make Gen AI images, because chatgpt and rivals can be found in Image Studio, or even a customized selection of numbers via the playlist studio. During my demo, the following movement hilariously created a playlist based on a recipe for garlic butter salmon.
In addition to the special button, Moto AI can be activated using eye contact or your voice while you are in stand or tent modes, making real hands-free interaction possible.
Real flagship performance
Although Razr Flip telephones have always offered strong performance, they are usually lowered compared to the absolute newest and best when it comes to chipset. The Razr 50 Ultra is driven for example by the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3, and the original foldable Razr in 2019 had the uncomfortable problem of running a middle class Snapdragon 710.
However, that is not the case with the Razr 60 Ultra. It uses the Snapdragon 8 elite, Qualcomm’s first -class chip, plus a generous 16 GB RAM. The performance during my practical time was predictably excellent, and I would suspect that it could also be a powerful gaming device.
It means that the razr can finally go against each other with the Galaxy Z Flip when it comes to performance.
Dust protection … kind of
One of the most important design errors of the Razr 50 Ultra was the full lack of dust resistance. The IPX8 rating protected it against immersion in water, but no fixed particles.
This has been dramatically improved on the 60 Ultra, which has been upgraded to IP48. This officially protects it against objects larger than 1 mm, although we stop with the IP68 that we see on many non-folding telephones. I would still not recommend taking it to the beach.

Set up a great view (s)
None of the displays on the Razr 60 Ultra offers major upgrades. The external cover screen remains a 4-inch, 165Hz Pold, while the internal Amoled display is marginal larger at 7-inch and also 165 Hz.
During my practical time, however, I could not ignore how good the panels were. Both offer the rich, vibrant colors and deep blacks that we are going to associate with OLEDs, while Full HD+ resolutions ensure that details are still excellent.

I would really like to use the displays for everything, from catching up the news to viewing YouTube videos and even gaming.
Don’t forget the battery!
Of course I could not test this during the practical time, but Motorola has not been shy when it comes to upgrading the RAZR 60 Ultra’s battery.
It is equipped with a cell of 4700 mAh, an increase of 4000 mAh in the 50 Ultra. That is a huge increase, especially when the battery life was already considerably. I really hope that this can mean two days on one load, at least on those non-heavy user days.
Charging has also received a nice boost, with wired speeds that go from 45 to 68W. Motorola claims that you can get enough power after only eight minutes, although it is not clear to which battery percentage that matches.

There is no charger in the box, but that is not surprising for a telephone from 2025. Meanwhile, 30W wireless and 5W reverse wireless charging make the RAZR 60 Ultra an impressive all -rounder.
As you can see, my early impressions of the Razr 60 Ultra are very positive. If it is a similar story during my tests, it is probably easy to recommend.
However, the starting price of £ 1,099.99 (US prices TBC) makes it more expensive in the UK than the £ 1,049/$ 1,099.99 Galaxy Z Flip 6. The sale starts from 24 April in selected countries.

Motorola organized my trip to New York. I accepted it because there were no alternative ways to get hands-on time with the Razr 60 Ultra in the launch. There were no conditions about what I write or how I evaluate the device.
