Chicago – The fatal shooting of a woman on the 69th Street Red Line platform This weekend was part of a domestic fight that started as an argument and became more and more violent, said public prosecutors on Friday.
Kamari McMillen, 30, and Tiara Lee-Roberts, 28, had been going out for almost a year, but the relationship has recently been non-over, public prosecutor, said public prosecutor Todd Kleist during the detention hearing of Lee-Roberts.
On Tuesday evening the couple ate with McMillen’s mother and other family members, and then went to McMillen’s house, Kleist said, adding that there were no problems during the meeting.
Lee-Roberts and McMillen went to McMillen’s apartment, but Video showed Lee-Roberts who left a short time later and walked to the 69th Street CTA platform, Kleist continued. McMillen went to the platform a few minutes later.
CTA monitoring video showed the few minutes of a fight, Kleist said, and McMillen waved to Lee-Roberts a number of times to Lee-Roberts when the situation escalated. But he said that the video has never shown McMillen with a weapon.
Lee-Roberts walked through the platform at one point, but McMillen followed her and hit her in the back of the head. Again, Lee-Roberts walked away and McMillen continued to follow, Kleist said.
While Lee-Roberts ran the second time, she pulled a gun from her waistband and, according to Kleist, kept it in her right hand. Then the couple, very close to a CTA camera, face-to-face and breast-to-cutter. Kleist said that Lee-Roberts, who still kept the gun in her hand, pushed McMillan twice.
In the end, Lee-Roberts shot a shot that struck McMillen in the neck, Kleist claimed. He said that McMillen fell on the platform and Lee-Roberts left immediately without helping her or calling 911. McMillen died later that night.
Lee-Roberts called her family after the shooting and she took her to the police station to surrender. She also handed over a firearm that Kleist said it seemed to be the same weapon that was used in the shooting.
Judge Boliker held Lee-Roberts, who is confronted with two counts of murder.
