In response to this destructive tirade, artist and activist Nan Goldin and the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art (LLMA) launched one Two weeks of online print sales This morning, 12 June, to raise money for three organizations that are committed to supporting and protecting self -determined gender identity and expression through legal aid and advocacy, direct cash help and educational programming.
The sale is from five by seven inch prints of two intimate portraits of Goldin: “Jimmy Paulette at Wigstock” (1991) and “Thora with Teddy Bear” (2020). Both took place in New York City, the first hairstylist Jimmy Paul (also known as Jimmy Paulette) in a blonde bouffant wig at the Wigstock Outdoor Drag Festival, while the second writer Tora Siemsen contains Pandemaemia in Goldin’s Clinton Hill Apartment. “Hundreds of anti-trans accounts threaten the safety, stability and health of trans people,” Goldin said in a statement. “Transphobia has long plagued legislation and culture, and this print sales concentrates the needs of Transmensen, who raise money for organizations that work directly with, respond to and support.”
