New York State leads the country again when it comes to expelling citizens: in 2023, almost 1% of the population left, more than 180,000 people.
That’s the largest share of any state’s population.
Yes, this number is “better” than the figure from 2022, when there was a net emigration of more than 244,000 people.
But New York has been losing residents for a long time, and the latest figure shows the COVID-era bleeding isn’t stopping.
And also that that was not the case exclusively because of the state’s insane, draconian, and pointless pandemic policies that closed schools and destroyed businesses — which are gone.
So what drives people away now?
Start with the crime: It is rampant in New York State, despite Governor Hochul’s attempts to deny it.
Look no further than the case of Monique Fort, who robbed a little boy and attacked his mother in The Bronx. Despite 14 – yes, 14! – during previous arrests, a judge let her go, making her almost certain that she will seriously harm or kill someone.
Then there’s the migrant crisis: Hundreds of thousands of migrants have flooded into the state thanks to the Harris-Biden border disaster, bringing with it a fiscal nightmare and a tidal wave of social problems.
But the progs in charge of state and local government refuse to take any meaningful action.
What Are Leftists from the Empire State spend their time doing?
Making sure Gothamites get time off work to mourn their pets — that is, if a bill from ultra-left city councilman Shaun Abreu becomes law.
And waging a war on cars, like Socialist Assembly member Emily Gallagher, while collecting traffic fines for red lights and illegal parking.
New York’s elected officials have gone far beyond simply being indifferent to the needs and desires of the public.
They are now fully in “open contempt” territory.
And guess what? New Yorkers across the state are taking the hint and hitting the road.
