A 58-year-old man who was hit in the back of the head by a maniac during a random attack on a Bronx street last month recently died from his injuries, police and sources said Wednesday.
Dequan Jackson, 29, allegedly crawled up behind the unsuspecting victim and punched him, causing him to collapse into the street near Jerome Avenue and West Mosholu Parkway North in Norwood on August 4 around 5 p.m., police said.
EMTs rushed the injured man to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he remained for more than a month before dying on September 7, police said.
His identity was not released pending notification of family.
Jackson was arrested at the scene and charged with assault, but sources say the charges could be upgraded now that his victim is dead.
He has 10 previous arrests, including for assault, reckless endangerment, grand theft and criminal possession of a weapon.
Jackson, of the Bronx, was arrested earlier in 2021 and charged with assault after punching his 5-year-old daughter in the arm, sources said.

During his arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court, he pleaded not guilty to the assault in August and was later released without bail, court records show.
His next court appearance is scheduled for September 17.
