CHICAGO — In recent weeks, residents of a North Side neighborhood have grown tired of a prowler breaking into garages and prowling yards.

One of the many residents who posted video of the thief to the Ring network said he has been appearing in so many surveillance clips lately that he “seems to be a regular TV star in the neighborhood.”

His fame in the neighborhood got a boost Sunday night when Chicago Police detectives released some surveillance images and asked the public to help identify him.

The photos released by CPD show the man broke into a garage in the 1800 block of West Balmoral around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 29. Police said he had two bicycles, an electric cargo bike and DeWalt tools and chargers.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original public safety reporting with better context and more detail than mainstream media. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
