Off-duty cop robbed in Rogers Park, more robberies in West Loop, River North

CHICAGO – An off-duty police officer was robbed at gunpoint in Rogers Park early Sunday morning. Additional robberies were reported in the West Loop and River North.

Two men armed with at least one rifle confronted the off-duty officer near the corner of Devon and Lakewood shortly after 2 a.m. The robbers managed to steal the off-duty officer’s wallet and phone, but were unable to take his BMW.

Officers on the scene said the two robbers were black men, one with dreadlocks, who escaped in a silver Ford Fusion driven by a black woman. The car had a temporary Indiana license plate and a dent on the top of the trunk.

Then, around 3:35 a.m., five men, at least four of whom had guns, confronted another robbery victim in the first block of North Green. They took the man’s phone and wallet and then fled in a dark vehicle, possibly a Honda Civic.

Those robbers were described as black men, all wearing masks. One wore a gray top with gray pants, while the others all wore dark clothing.

Finally, around 4:30 a.m., three people grabbed a woman’s bag as she walked near Kinzie and Kingsbury in River North. The suspects, described as black male juveniles, were last seen riding west on bicycles, including at least one Divvy.

CWBChicago was founded in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had become discouraged by the inaccurate information presented during local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has since expanded to Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown and other North Side areas. But our mission remains unchanged: to provide original public safety reporting with better context and more detail than mainstream media. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
