Olympic rower reveals shocking side hustle that earns him twice as much money as his sporting career

An Olympian has opened up about their unexpected side job that earns them twice as much money as their sporting career.

Depending on which country someone represents at the Olympics depends on how much he or she gets paid.

For example, athletes from Singapore will receive as much as $745,000 if they win a gold medal for their country, while athletes from Team USA will receive $38,000.

Most athletes don’t receive a salary during their Olympic journey and the lead up to it, so they may turn to sponsorship as a way to make extra money.

But going against the grain is New Zealand, which reportedly pays its athletes on an annual basis.

According to the Economic Research Institute, the average salary for a professional athlete is between NZD 47,097 and NZD 76,862.

This falls below the average salary range for someone in New Zealand.

In terms of medals, New Zealand structures its payouts as annual bonuses, with gold medalists receiving $40,000 annually until the next Games, Sky News reports.

Although New Zealand is best known for its rowing successes, having racked up 29 medals for the sport over the years, rower Robbie Manson has taken on extracurricular activities to keep himself afloat (no pun intended).

Manson recently revealed that he’s started his own OnlyFans page – and it’s already proving to be quite successful.

“I get paid more than double what I would otherwise do as an athlete – read into that what you will, but I make more from OnlyFans than from rowing at this stage,” he said. according to NBC News.

“I thought, if I’m going to do it, you have to tell everyone, be very open and I think you have to feel that any publicity is good publicity.”

Manson, who is openly gay, went on to say that he already has a large gay following, so he thought he would push for that.

“I wouldn’t say it applies to everyone, but for other athletes there is certainly an opportunity,” he continued.

And Manson isn’t the only Olympian on the podium; British Olympians Jack Laugher and Elise Christie also feature on OnlyFans.

Like New Zealand, British athletes do not receive direct cash rewards for medals at the Games.

Christie, a retired short track speed skater, credited OnlyFans with “saving her life.”

“I went from being someone who was winning medals under a system, to being in a situation where I had nothing at all and was just left out and had to figure out life,” she told The Telegraph.

“I had lost my house and was working three jobs at the time…[OnlyFans] brought me back from a very dark place, and I’m using it positively now.”
