While sister company Oppo has a few folding bars under the belt, OnePlus waited for the first attempt until 2023.
The OnePlus Open was a fascinating debut that combined Premium hardware with a number of really impressive software functions. But there is still room for improvement in a few important areas – including the price.
Based on the rumors, the coming open 2 is one of the most formidable challengers for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold, with rumors that swirl around a huge battery and the advanced Snapdragon 8 Elite Processor.
While OnePlus builds on the success of his predecessor, this upcoming folding may not only catch up, but also possibly surpass many other flagships, making it a serious competition under the best folding telephones.
So when can we expect and what will the OnePlus Open 2 offer exactly? Here is everything we know at this stage.
When is the OnePlus Open 2 released?
At the moment there is no official information about the launch of the Open 2, or even if OnePlus is working on a new model. But it would be a surprise to give up the company after just one generation.
With the global launch of the first OnePlus Open that takes place October 19, 2023It seems that OnePlus will settle in a biennial update cycle.

Gsmarena reports that Oppo is preparing to launch the Find N5 soon, although it did not appear with the Find X8 series as expected. The phone will be a successor to the Find N3, where the number ‘4’ is skipped (apparently because of tetraphobia).
This is in line with a claim from a Chinese Leaker, Digital Chat Station, that the Find N5 arrives at the end of March 2025. The same Leaker also claimed that OnePlus is planning to launch the Open 2 at the beginning of 2025. This is in line with what another Leaker, Chun BaiSaid too.
Moreover, the telephone has already been published in certification databases such as Sirim in Malaysia and SDPPI in Indonesia, and is also stated in the camera FV-5 database with the model number CPH2671 (via the Tech Outlook).
If earlier trends continue, the Find N5 can launch international as the OnePlus Open 2, which also in the first quarter of 2025. However, a recent tip from a leaker Sanju Choudary on X indicates that it only in the Second half of 2025Probably no earlier than July.
This delay can be problematic because it is rumor that the open 2 contains the Snapdragon 8 elite chipset, and a launch in the middle of the year would only leave a few months before the next flagship Snapdragon chip is expected to be in October debut.
Because these details are not confirmed, there is still a chance that the actual timeline can vary.
How much does the OnePlus cost cost?
Although we currently have no concrete information about the price of the OnePlus Fold 2, we expect the price to remain competitive.

The One Plus open costs £ 1,599/$ 1,699, making it more affordable than important rivals in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 (from £ 1,799/$ 1,899) and the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold (from £ 1,749/$ 1,799).
Hopefully OnePlus makes the Open 2 even more affordable, but that may not be the case, especially if there are important upgrades.
What specifications and functions does the OnePlus Open 2 have?
Design
A teaser image shared by Pete Lau emphasizes the striking thinness of the device. According to Oppo’s announcement, the Find N5 will launch as the thinnest flagship foldable on the market.
The current thinnest folding, the Honor Magic V3, measures 4.35 mm thick. To claim the title, the Find N5 must be slimmer, with rumors that suggest a thickness in the range of 3.5-4 mm.
In addition, Oppo’s product manager Zhou Yibao revealed that the Find N5 will contain a hinge of titanium alloy, which improves sustainability. Digital chat station also claims the same.

Recent photos that are shared by the Oppo product manager emphasize the impressively thin design of the Find N5.
In its folded state, the phone is as slim as two stacked CNY 1 coins, which measures approximately 3.7 mm.
This only makes it the second phone in the world to break the 4 mm thickness barrier, which the partner XT Ultimate Tri-fold follows.
The phone also appeared in a leaked hands-on photo, placed next to the Find N3.
This photo indicates a camera setup with three lenses and an LED flash arranged in a square layout on a circular module.

According to Digital Chat Station (via Gizmochina), the Oppo N5 and therefore open 2, a similar design as its predecessor, the Find N3, with a large, circular camera module at the back.
While specific measurements of the screen size have not been revealed, the display is said to be larger than that of the previous generation.
Moreover, it is said that the device has an ‘anti-drop-body structure’, an intriguing detail that has been revealed by translation.
In addition, Smartprix Renders (above), reportedly based on a ‘late stage prototype’, offered the first view of the OnePlus Open 2. It seems that, while small design elements can change, important changes are unlikely.
The open 2 seems to be larger and thinner than its predecessor, while retaining the distinctive circular camera island with prominent Hasselblad -Branding. When folded, it can only measure 10 mm thick, compared to the 11.7 mm of the original, and it can have an IPX8 rating for water resistance (also reported by Digital Chat Station), an upgrade of the IPX4 -Plash resistance of the Previous model.

The same source also claims that the internal screen of the Oppo Find N5 will support an impressive 2K+ resolution, which considerably improves the display quality.
This high resolution display is expected to improve the viewing experience for users, especially with the larger screen size of this new model.
Performance
The OnePlus Open is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. This was the newest chipset at the time of launch, but we have seen two subsequent generations since then.
Indeed, Leaker Yogesh Brar suggests in an X post that the Open 2 will be powered by the latest and best Snapdragon 8 -Elite of Qualcomm. However, this will supposedly be a seven-core version, which means that it has one CPU performance less than the regular chipset.
Although the reduction of CPU cores can somewhat influence performance, it is still expected that it is a major upgrade on the 8 gene 2 in its original open. In the meantime, the reduced power consumption will probably result in better current efficiency, which in turn benefits the battery life.

Chinese Leakers Digital Chat Station and Smart Pikachu think the same because they report that the Oppo N5 will be powered by the latest chipset from Qualcomm.
The current model is only available in one configuration (16 GB/512 GB) and we do not expect this to change with the release of the Open 2, especially since it offers more ram and storage than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold, for a lower price.
However, it would have been nice to see more storage options, for example in the form of an extra 1 TB configuration.
Cameras
According to a new leak from Weibo, the camera module of OnePlus Open 2 may have inspired a well -known design by the OnePlus 13.
Shared sketch (below) of the module reveals a camera design design that is reportedly shared with the Oppo Find N5, because the two devices are expected to be almost identical.
The sketch indicates that the LED flash is in the right corner, with the Periscoop telephoto lens in the top left corner. The most important and ultrawide cameras will occupy the remaining two recesses.
The Tipster also notes that the protrusion of the camera island will not be overly pronounced, in contrast to common expectations.

Digital Chat Station also reports (via Gizmochina) that Oppo will continue to work with Hasselblad to integrate a powerful triple camera system into Find N5.
It is said that this set -up contains a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide lens and a 50MP periscope -telephoto camera that is able to be used 3x optical zoom, which they claim to be offered.

Elsewhere, the Find N5 is listed in the camera FV-5 database with the model number CPH2671 (via the technical prospects). It reveals that the effective resolution of the rear camera is mentioned as 12.6 MP, indicating a 50MP sensor with 4-in-1 pixelbinning.
The front camera shows an effective resolution of 7.1 MP, which suggests a 28.4MP sensor before Binning, which refers to cropping and points to a likely 32MP selfie camera. The most important reversing camera is expected to have an f/1.9 aperture, while the front camera has an f/2.4 diaphragma.
As a reminder, the OnePlus Open has five cameras: a 48MP Main, 64MP 3x Telefoto and 48MP UltraWide on the back, plus 32MP inner selfie and 20Mp Cover Selfie lenses.
Battery and charging
The OnePlus Open is equipped with a 4805 mAh battery, so that most users get a full day of use under typical conditions. But you struggle with more intensive use, making the battery life an important weakness.
In July, Digital Chat Station (via Android Authority) revealed that Oppo and Vivo develop large foldable phones that have been set to launch in Q1 2025, with the Snapdragon 8 elite processor and a substantial 6000 mAh battery.
The same source now reports that the Find N5 (the basis for the open 2 as a reminder) will have a battery configuration with double cells with a nominal capacity of 5565 mAh, which will probably reach around 5700 mAh in typical capacity.
Another Chinese leaker, Smart Pikachu, claims that the phone will have a cell of 6000 mAh.

The OnePlus Open has 67W quickly charging, with the required charger in the box. It can charge up to 50% in just 15 minutes and reach a complete charge in less than 45 minutes.
Although exact details about wired loading speeds of the Oppo Find N5/OnePlus Open 2 still have to be attached, the device is said to support both wireless and magnetic wireless charging, which offers flexibility for users.
Both digital chat station and Smart Pikachu also claim that the phone will have wireless charging.
With regard to wired speeds, GSmarena reports that the Find N5 (and therefore open 2) will support 80W wired charging. This is based on a certification in the 3C office of China
Software
Many OnePlus devices have already received an update from Android 15, together with OnePlus’ Oxygenos 15 Skin. It is therefore safe to assume that the OnePlus Open 2 will probably also debut with it.
All current multitasking functions that are available on the OnePlus Open will probably also find their way to the Open 2, and with some new additions.
