Oops! Man dropped a receipt with his name on it while robbing a woman as she took out the trash: Prosecutors
Carlos Arredondo (Chicago Police Department)

CHICAGO – A Chicago man is facing robbery charges for allegedly robbing a woman while she was taking out the trash after police found his name on a receipt someone dropped at the crime scene.

Judge William Fahy arrested Carlos Arredondo, 27, saying he has a “long history of committing robberies” and was recently released on parole.

The robbery occurred when a 21-year-old woman was taking her trash to the alley in the 3500 block of West 24th Street on May 15 around 6:30 p.m.

Prosecutors said Arredondo punched the woman in the face and took two gold chains and lockets from her neck.

The victim’s 49-year-old mother saw what happened and tried to intervene. But Arredondo’s accomplice beat the mother and also stole her necklace, according to an arrest warrant.

Arredondo and his accomplice allegedly jumped into a car and drove away. Prosecutors said a receipt with Arredondo’s name fell from the getaway car. Police also learned of similar crimes committed with a similar vehicle, which they traced back to Arredondo’s accomplice, the petition said.

Court records show no one other than Arredondo is charged with the 24th Street robbery.

Arredondo was sentenced in 2018 to two consecutive seven-year prison terms for robbery. In 2023, he was given a three-year prison sentence for being a felon in possession of a firearm.
