The parents of OnlyFans model Courtney Clenney have been arrested for alleged evidence tampering in connection with their daughter’s case. Clenney was charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend Christian “Toby” Obumseli in 2022.
Per WPLGPolice in Travis County, Texas arrested 57-year-old Deborah Clenney and 60-year-old Kim Clenney on January 30 after discovering that Kim failed to provide material that could be considered as evidence. Kim is said to have found the withheld evidence after the couple’s apartment was searched by police. They are currently being held on a felony out-of-state warrant.
According to police sources, the evidence in question was a laptop belonging to the late Obumseli. Kim Clenney allegedly tried to gain access to the device, which he later turned over to his lawyers.
Courtney Clenney’s attorney Frank Prieto released a statement calling her parents’ arrest a “prosecutory overreach” and misconduct.
“We believe the Clenney family are being targeted with a number of trumped-up allegations to discredit them in the press and make their lives miserable. It stinks of a power play by the prosecutors to control the story,” said Prieto. “It appears that the prosecutors in this case are trying to reach the media with little or no evidence because we do not yet know what the true allegations are. It’s unnecessary and distasteful. All they had to do was one phone call and we would have been in trouble. court. It’s so unforgivable.”
Courtney Clenney, 27, has been behind bars in Miami since August 2022 as she awaits trial for Obumseli’s murder on April 3 of the same year. She is charged with manslaughter with a deadly weapon. She has claimed self-defense for the fatal stabbing and has pleaded not guilty.
Kim Clenney previously took the stand in court to defend his daughter and also said he was unaware of her career as an OnlyFans creator. Clenney is said to have made $3 million from OnlyFans during her time as a creator. According to The New York PostKim described her and Obumseli’s relationship as “very toxic” and said he knew “he wasn’t treating her right.”
Obumseli’s family and friends have criticized police’s decision not to arrest Clenney immediately after the stabbing and have doubted her claims of self-defense.
“They were told that Courtney claimed self-defense and they believed her and no investigation was necessary,” the Obumseli family attorney said in 2022. “The detective reached his conclusion within 24 hours of being reported on the scene. is completely inappropriate and something that should never happen.”
