A conditional weapon designer was imprisoned after the Chicago police investigators connected him to an armed carjacking by revising his postal posts on social media, officials said.
Fredrick Buchanan, 20, has been conditionally free for two separate guns since December. Now public prosecutors say he was one of the four armed men who carjacked a 66-year-old man last month.
Around 1:11 am on March 4, the victim was outside his house in the 4400 block of South Berkeley when the masked armed men rolled on him in a Nissan Maxima equipped with stolen signs. Prosecutors said the men demanded the keys to the victim’s Red BMW X3, while Buchanan took $ 200 in cash from the victim’s pocket.
A detective who is familiar with the hijacking of the hijacking, assessed surveillance images and acknowledged the firearm that was worn by one of the carjackers as the same gun posted in videos posted on the Buchanan Instagram account, according to the court applications. Other reports on social media would have shown Buchanan in the Nissan Maxima that the hijackers used on March 4. Researchers found additional evidence of Buchanan’s involvement while performing a search order on his telephone, the court applications stated.
According to a CPD report, researchers have also connected Buchanan with the armed carjacking of a 29-year-old man in the 7900 block of South Ingleside on March 10. However, prosecutors did not accuse him of that crime.
Judge James Costello held Buchanan and quoted his ‘extensive’ history of firearms and violent crime. State officials have indicated that they intend to revise the conditional status of Buchanan in the light of the new allegations.
