AI Firm Sentient Labs, founded by co-founder of Polygon Sandep Nailwal and supported by Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, is preparing for the launch of Open Deep Search (ODS), a new framework that is designed to match AI search products with a closed-source AI.
ODS aims to stimulate the possibilities of Sentient Chat, with conscious co-founder Himanshu Tyagi who tells block works that it is “a goal of having all these different agents who build on our models that need to be integrated there.”
It is currently limited to selected testers, although a complete public release is expected in the coming months.
Sentient Chat is the platform in which users “can not only experience our models, but also all applications that are built on collecting model.”
“That is why we have both things going, but our value proposition is only models. So our claim is that although great models … can come, we are in a kind of age of abundance for the next one to two years, especially because of this very interesting geopolitical game.”
The team has designed ODS to be owned by the community, which means it can be changed and developers enables Domain-Specific Plug-Ins, private search agents and alternative remuneration mechanisms to build, “added the press release.
Sentient is aimed at building “loyal” AI models, such as the flagship model Dobby.
When it was scored against a benchmark called frames, the accuracy of Sentient was higher than both the Sonar Reasing Pro from Pertlexity and GPT-4O search prospect, according to a press release.
The team wants to make AI more accessible across the board through decentralization. Tyagi told Blockworks that he is “absolutely” bullish at the intersection of AI and Crypto.
“Opening a framework that performs better than market leaders such as Perplexity throws the glove to closed-source AI developers while developers give access to a powerful primitive who frees them to create the applications that they have always dreamed of,” Tyagi said.
Decentralization is the key, he added, because it is difficult to know what centralized entities are missing in terms of data.
“I am very bullish about decentralizing data sources itself” because it solves the problem, he explained.
Although some are consciously compared to confusing, Tyagi has rejected this, saying that Sentient has no direct competitor. He says earlier that the team is more focused on building models.
Currently there is a waiting list of almost two million for conscious chat, and around 700,000 users of his loyal AI model Dobby.
