Chicago – A petition in which Mayor Brandon Johnson is encouraged to support a evening clock of 8 p.m. for non -counseled minors in the city center, won more than 3,000 signatures from the afternoon on Friday. But there are no signs that Johnson intends to change his mind.
Two people, including a tourist, were shot last month during separate “large group” incidents in Streeterville, as a result of which residents and their alderman shouted an earlier evening clock. Costs have been submitted this week in connection with the tourist shooting.
“I can’t underestimate the corrosive effects of these violent takeovers,” ald. Said Brian Hopkins in a Thursday evening Interview on Chicago tonight. “Hundreds of people run up and down through the streets, robbing the convenience stores, harm people.”
Hopkins remembered an attack during a takeover last year that ensured that a pregnant woman lost her baby.
“There is a very serious problem and it needs an immediate solution. It needs a law enforcement solution,” Hopkins said.
He said that CPD officers maintained the current evening fire of the city at 10 p.m. last weekend, but it came too late because the acquisition -violence had already taken place.
Hopkins said that the evening clock enforcement of last weekend “had a horrifying effect on a part of the chaos and chaos that took place. The teenagers saw the police withdraw, and they spread … We have to do it two hours earlier.”
Meanwhile sponsors of one Online petition I hope to convince Johnson to reverse the efforts of Hopkins to reverse the evening clock time.
“Because you have the authority to circumvent the council and carry out this evening clock, we beg you to take action quickly,” says the petition. “The situation we are confronted with today requires rapid intervention to prevent further disruptions and to ensure that Chicago remains a safe and hospitable city for everyone.”

Dring Chicago Mayor Johnson at 8 p.m.
The problem
Request at 8 p.m. Evening clock for non -counseled minors in the central business district of Chicago
Dear Mayor Johnson,
As worried citizens of Chicago and the Streeterville Neighborhood Advocates, we advise you with respect to perform an evening clock of 20:00 for non -counseled minors in the central business district. Recent reports on activities of “teenage takeover” in the Streeterville area have shown major concerns. These events include large groups without supervision that collect minors and deal with disruptive and sometimes violent behavior, creating chaos and forming serious safety risks for both residents and visitors. In the light of these incidents, we believe that immediate and decisive action is needed to guarantee the safety and well -being of our community, in particular with the coming summer events, including the Democratic National Convention and Nascar.
Alderman Brian Hopkins has introduced a regulation to the city council that proposes this evening clock as a proactive measure to tackle the escalating incidents of violence and disorder to minors. His proposal emphasizes the urgent need to protect residents, visitors and the integrity of our public spaces. The regulation states: “A city -wide evening clock will scare unlawful meetings, reduce the potential for violence and help the law enforcement in maintaining public safety.”
Streeterville is the entrance gate to some of the most active tourist attractions, including Navy Pier, the River Walk, the John Hancock building, the beautiful mile and beaches of world class. The area not only attracts visitors from other parts of the city, the state and the country, but also from all over the world. It serves as a most important economic engine for our city, and as good neighbors we welcome these tourists and enjoy interaction with them during their visits.
Moreover, this neighborhood is home to one of the most prominent health care systems in the world. Patients and their families come out everywhere to receive high quality care, and they must feel safe here.
Because you have the authority to circumvent the council and carry out this evening clock, we begs to take action quickly. The situation we are confronted with today requires fast intervention to prevent further disruptions and to ensure that Chicago remains a safe and hospitable city for everyone.
We believe that this evening clock will improve public safety by limiting time, without supervision in public areas. Such an evening clock will drastically reduce the chance of violent incidents and illegal activities and support law enforcement in managing crowds. Moreover, it will protect our community and protect vital economic and health care hubs in the area of Streeterville and River East.
We understand that evening clips can be challenging and disturbing, but we believe that this temporary measure is needed to restore order and protect our community. We rely on your leadership and dedication to the safety and well -being of all Chicagoans and our valued guests, many of whom decide to visit this great city that we call at home.
We kindly ask you to perform this evening clock from 20:00 for minors as a matter of urgency. Your fast action shows your dedication to maintaining peace and security in our beloved city.
We, the undersigned, support the above request for an evening clock from 20:00 for non -counseled minors in the Central Business District and urge Mayor Johnson to take immediate action.
Please note: all requests for donations you can receive after signing this petition are from Change.org to support their platform and not from Streeterville Neighborhood Advocates-SNA. Our group does not ask for donations.
