Peugeot E-208 GTI revealed: French Hot Hatch is going electric

Peugeot wads in the electric hot latch struggle with the GTI Badge now applied to the E-208 City Hatch.

Under the hood there is a more powerful French -made electric motor with 209 kW And 345 Nm Drive the front wheels. That is quite a big step further than the 115kW engine of the regular E-208.

To help the GTI make a clean outing, it is equipped with a differential with limited slip. The E-208 GTI can complete the dashboard of 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 180 km/h.

A 54kWh battery from CATL is standard and offers a driving range of 350 km below the WLTP standard. AC loading speeds are top at 7.4 kW and 100 kW can be reached with a DC Fast Charger.

The GTI drives on 215/40 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires wrapped around 18-inch wheels styled to resemble the “hole” rims used on the 205 GTI.

Peugeot claims that this not only honors the heritage of the car, but offers extra cooling for the brakes. The front discs are raised to 355 mm with red-painted four-piston calipers. The brakes on the back are unchanged of the regular E -208 for “efficiency” purposes.

To help the handling and posture of the car, the GTI is 30 mm lower than lesser E-208 variants, and its tracks are wider with 56 mm at the front and 27 mm at the back.

Extra-design changes are limited to a larger rear spoiler, a color-coded section under the grid and liberal use of red pipes on the grid and wheelbear protectors.

In the cabin there are new grill front seats and a small steering wheel with a flat top and bottom. There are many red highlights inside and outside, while prominent GTI bathing appears on the alloy wheels, they are sills, chairs and steering wheel.

Faux suede trim is used on the door handles, the steering wheel, the seats and the center console lid. Leather is applied to the chair balls and parts of the steering wheel, while a huge strip of carbon -fiber -like upholstery extends from the door maps and over the dashboard.

The E-208 GTI will be produced in the right hand for the UK and Ireland, but it is unclear whether the E-208 GTI Australian streets will adorn. The Australian future of the 208 range is indeed unclear.

Originally planned to appear locally in 2024, that date came and went without movement at the station. Although the E-208 received Australian certification in 2023, local importer inchcape holds its cards close to his chest.

The last GTI model sold in Australia was the 308 in 2020, with the 208 and the 208 GTI in 2018.
