Chicago 19-year-old man who almost died after he was shot in a supermarket in West Side did not cooperate with Chicago Police Detectives. But that did not prevent the researchers from finding out who shot him, and it did not stop it from the public prosecutors to submit charges.
Civil servants say that the shooter is 16-year-old Javeon Gathright. Judge Deidre Dyer ordered him to stay in detention awaiting the trial.
Surveillance cameras at TNL Convenience Store, 5038 West Madison, registered Gathright and five other people who enter the company on March 8, said assistant state lawyer Michael Rusch in a written offer.
While the group held around the bathroom, the victim walked in, took an item from a shelf and went to the counter to view. A few people from the Gathright group walked past the victim, looked at him and then returned to the back of the store, Rusch said.
Many members of the group pulled masks in Balaclava style over their faces and they all walked to the victim at the cash register.
Rusch said that Gathright stuck in one of the jacket pockets of his companions, pulled out a gun and pointed it to the victim. The victim turned out to Gathright, who, according to Rusch, fired around four shots. Two bullets met the victim in his upper back; Another went into his right buttock and another entered the right side of his groin. CPD said he was in a critical condition.
While the victim did not cooperate, investigators spread images of the store system from the store to agents in the city and the suburbs. A Berwyn police officer recognized Gathright and reported CPD, Rusch said.
Gathright has no juvenile background. He is now being charged in court for adults with attempted murder of the first degree and a worsened battery by discharging a firearm.
