“One in five New Yorkers is older than 65 years, and they earn everything, from very affordable housing and well -equipped centers for the elderly to community programming and every day of the week delivered to your home or joint meals,” Hudson explained. “Although my Age in Place legislation package lays the foundation for many of these initiatives, we need robust financing to ensure that every older adult gets access to the services he or she needs.”
Another councilor, Mercedes Narcisse, also spoke at the event and emphasized the important role that older citizens play in their neighborhood.
“Older New Yorkers form the backbone of our houses and neighborhoods, and we have to do everything we can to ensure that they have access to the housing, healthy food and the services they have earned and deserve,” she said.
