A police officer in Chicago, who was planning to shoot a man who pointed a gun to him on Thursday, shot in unintentionally and killed co -officer Krystal Rivera while chasing a second suspect in a nearby corridor, the prosecutors said on Sunday.
The revelation, along with other details about what civil servants believe that there was a place in that apartment in Chatham on Thursday evening, when officers of justice accused 25-year-old Adrian Rucker of the illegal possession of the firearm that he reportedly pointed out to the police when she entered the unity.
Rucker had six active arrest trips when Rivera and at least one other officer chased a man whom they believed they were in an apartment in the 8200 block of South Drexel armed around 9.50 p.m.
The suspect jumped over a bank and shot a corridor with Rivera just behind, said public prosecutors. In the meantime, her partner Rucker saw a firearm pointing in their direction behind a bank, said Assistant State’s lawyer Joell Biscigela in court on Sunday.
The partner fired a shot and hit Rivera in an area of her upper back unprotected by her bullet -proof vest. She died shortly thereafter. Biscelgia said that CPD camera images of body cameras and video from apartment protection showed that Rucker pointed a weapon to the officer.
Rucker and the original suspect fled after Rivera fled, but officers arrested in the neighborhood shortly thereafter. The other suspect escaped.
Rucker had six active arrest statements at the time of the incident, said civil servants. They include one before the court for a theft of a crime of identity theft on 5 June 2024, a year to the day before Rivera was murdered.
The active Warrants of Rucker include one for not appearing in court on a theft of a crime identity theft on 5 June 2024, exactly one year before the death of Rivera. Other warrants of the provinces of Stephenson and Winnebago concerned accusations of domestic battery, theft and criminal damage, according to judicial data.
Biscelgia said that officers found three firearms, a 60-round drummazine, ammunition and suspected drugs, including heroin, crack-cocaine and cannabis from the apartment. They also found fake -ID cards from several states that carry Rucker’s face.
Right Shauna Boliker held Rucker. He is accused of armed violence, illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a regulated substance and possession of a fraudulent identification card. Despite his name, the accusation of armed violence does not include violence of violence. It is rather a class X crime that can be charged when a person is accused of possessing a firearm and drugs at the same time.
