After a wild journey through China, the race will be warmed up all over the world and next week a team will unfortunately leave the competition forever.
Spoilers for race about the World Series 5 Episode 2 below
As it has been in previous years, the last pair that reaches the next checkpoint is eliminated. If you have adjusted earlier this week, you know that some turbulent weather conditions have caused chaos for the second checkpoint, which could solve problems for the left behind.
The BBC has of course not revealed who will get the heel – we will only know for sure when episode three will be broadcast next Wednesday 7 May. However, I have found three very clear signs that seem to indicate which participants are not progressing.
Typhoon -Problems
Three teams brought it to Checkpoint Two in Sanya. They are sisters Elizabeth and Letitia, who managed to retain their leadership. Brothers Brian and Melvyn, who jumped in second place from fourth place. And finally, the young couple, Fin and Sioned.
Two pairs were still in the race for the second stage. Those are mother and son, Caroline and Tom, and previously couple, Gaz and Yin. Unfortunately, the last team is in a much worse position than the first.

Caroline and Tom have taken the island of Hainan, so they have crossed the ocean and just have to find a bed for the night before they are on their way as soon as it is safe to do that, which can be very early in the morning. However, Gaz and Yin are stuck on the mainland, without signs of when the ferry will go.
Unless Caroline and Tom cannot find any transport on the island, it seems unlikely that Gaz and Yin will be able to catch up and there will be a huge gap between them and the first place finishers.
It is a true shame, because the weather is outside of their control and the other teams almost managed to cross the sea on time, but that is the brutality of race around the world.
The trailers tell everything
If you look at the trailer from the end of episode 1 on BBC IPLayer, you will see clips from Nepal and India. In the images there is not clear in one of these countries.
Yes, that is Yin and Gaz.
We see that Brian and Melvin Cricket play in what looks like India, Caroline who has applied a Bhindi and says “look at this place” with a shot of Jaipur, Rajasthan (although admitted, the latter could be a shot of another couple).
Elizabeth and Letitia are on a bus tour – I used Google Lens in the front, and this seems to be in Nepal, which is not until Checkpoint Four – so after the delivery of next week, which according to the route shown in episode seems to keep the teams in China.
Fin and Sioned are now shown in the first trailer per road, with the sign ‘Bithoor’, a city in India.
The only new shot we see from Gaz and Yin from the end of the first episode trailer are they run over a bridge, and they seem to be wet … Maybe from the rain of the typhoon?
So, unless the editors use a number of smart tricks to mislead us, it probably seems that Gaz and Yin don’t make it past control point.
Their background story has already been told
Some of the combinations, such as Brian and Melvyn, are not fully immersed in some of the most emotional parts of their background story – their driving force to come in the first place in the entire world.

BBC/Studio Lambert
But Yin and Gaz did that in episode two. They discussed how their daughter, autumn, saw it as a final adventure for her parents, and how this show was difficult for them, because they would miss her birthday for the first time.
As a divorced couple it was very refreshing to see the couple think about their marriage while staying good friends – a unique bond.
The producers like to spread these emotional moments in the series, and it would be logical to post Yin and Gaz’s earlier if they have only one episode left.
Race over the World Series 5 will be on BBC One and BBC IPLayer next Wednesday at 9 p.m.
