CHICAGO – A rideshare passenger suffered a graze wound to her forehead overnight in Lakeview.
The 25-year-old woman is doing well following the incident, which happened around 2:04 a.m. at the intersection of Belmont and Sheffield.
Police said in a media statement that the woman was driving a car when she “heard shots, felt pain and realized she had a gunshot wound to the forehead.”
A witness told police that someone in a dark vehicle may have fired the shots, but no other information about the shooter or vehicle was released.
Investigators found six shell casings at the scene. The driver’s car was also hit by bullets.
The woman is the eighth person shot in Lakeview this year. However, three of those victims are people who were shot elsewhere and refused to tell police where the shooting occurred after showing up for treatment at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. As a result, the city lists the hospital as the “location” of the shooting.
Lakeview currently has six shooting victims last year and 13 in 2022.
Last Sunday morning, a man was shot during a fight in the Boystown entertainment district. Officers arrived to find a 23-year-old man with gunshot wounds near both ankles at 3701 North Halsted.
On August 18, a restaurant worker was shot and killed in the 2800 block of North Maplewood as he headed home from work.
The only person charged in connection with a shooting in Lakeview in the past two years is Raphael Hammond, 37, who faces federal firearms charges for firing a gun during a shootout that injured two people across from Wrigley Field on May 5 .
Federal officials said Hammond was the intended target of the shooting, but he escaped unharmed.
