Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen is financially supporting Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the upcoming 2024 US presidential election.
The executive chairman of Ripple say he will donate $10 million in XRP tokens to the Democratic nominee.
“It’s time for Democrats to take a new approach to technological innovation, including crypto. I believe Kamala Harris will ensure that American technology dominates the world…’
Commenting on Larsen’s announcement, Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse said say the payments company will take a two-pronged approach in pushing for a crypto-friendly environment in the US.
“I respect Chris’s (and everyone else’s) right to support whoever they think is best to lead the U.S.
We must immediately change course after this administration’s misguided war on crypto.
Ripple will continue to work with both Democrats and Republicans in the final days of the campaigns (and post-election) to advance pro-crypto policies. It’s not about party lines; it is about defending policies that encourage blockchain and crypto innovation.”
Larsen initially announced his support for the Democratic presidential candidate last month in a joint letter with dozens of current and former U.S. business leaders.
Harris’ rival, Donald Trump, who has branded himself as “The Crypto Candidate,” received campaign donations worth $1 million in Bitcoin (BTC) from Gemini exchange co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss in June.
Election day is scheduled for Tuesday, November 5.
