A rock-wielding menace hit a straphanger in the head during a random attack at a Manhattan subway station Wednesday afternoon, according to police and sources.

The 56-year-old man was walking from the mezzanine level into the 14th Street and Eighth Avenue station in Chelsea when a brute came out of nowhere and hit him in the head several times with a rock around 12:30 p.m., police said.

“He took a good shot in the head,” a construction worker who witnessed the unhinged attack told The Post.
