From close by, the irregularly roasted, geometric backgrounds of Ruby Sky SilentThe paintings evoke patchwork or the patterns of agricultural landscapes that are seen airy. Complicated patterns cross each other in every rectangle and indicate flower or decorative motifs that, when viewed from further away, seem almost topographical. Merger with this basic work are bravely defined women who often immediately return the viewer’s gaze.
If the history of Western art is reassessed, Pestiler positions women in what she has previously described as ‘the empowered role as the artist’. Instead of musing or objectified topics, she steeps her figures with qualities of control, freedom and leisure.

Recently to be seen in Frieze La with Alexander Gray AssociatesThe paintings of Stiler continue to work again the abstraction of the 20th-century abstraction, especially the predominantly male cubist movement that was missing around 1907 and 1908. She runs the tables on the historical gender dichotomy in visual arts, so that the role of women as subjects of paintings has been transferred to those of Create.
In works as ‘women with children in blue’ portrays quieter nude figures at rest or with children, where the emphasis is placed on another powerful definition of women as makers and care providers. Through mosaic -like compositions, she challenges art -historical tropics and confirms more inclusive, contemporary definitions of gender roles in art.
Silent uses a careful graphite transfer process to apply contours with a pattern to its pieces, nodding to textile design – a traditional tradition that is also historically trivialized as ‘women’s work’ in the art world. Pastelacryl -tints fill bodies and backgrounds, while Bold is frightening for minimalist Bauhaus design clarifying bodies and objects.
Stiler is currently preparing a SOLO exhibition with Alexander Gray Associates planned for November. Discover more about her website And Instagram.
