Samsung is building a reputation for long-term software support, although most of its focus is on high-end models.
As impressive as seven years of updates are across the likes of the Galaxy S24 series, Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6, it’s also crucial that the budget phones get long-term support.
And if a recent report is true, it looks like that’s exactly what will happen. According to The Tech Outlook, Samsung will equip its next generation of cheap phones with no fewer than six major Android OS updates and six years of security updates.
The upgraded promise starts with the Galaxy A16 and A16 5G, which are said to launch in December. This will probably also include the Galaxy A26, A36 and A56, although it is not clear whether even cheaper phones from the Galaxy M series will be included.
If true, this will be a huge upgrade compared to the Galaxy A15 and A15 5G, which only get three major OS upgrades and four years of security updates.
That doesn’t stop both from being among the best budget phones you can buy, so we have high hopes for their successors.
