Renders of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Classic Smartwatch have leaked online, which confirms the statement of Samsung that it is going in a new design. But is it really “innovative”?
Onleaks and Sammyguru have worked together to place a series of detailed CAD rivers for Samsung’s future smartwatch, who sees the return of the beloved rotating ringinginging input (hence the ‘classic’ moniker).
The most striking, however, is the shape of the base of the phone. It takes a rounded squared (don’t let us say ‘squircle’) form instead of the pure circular shape of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7.

Samsung’s Non-So Innovative Smartwatch design
You could claim that this is a daring new design for the series, in accordance with the statement of Samsung that the next generation would be portable “an innovative design”. That is not entirely the case as far as we can see.
Samsung clearly follows the lead of the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra (shown below), which was launched in July 2024. The two smartwatches are indeed very similar, except that more pronounced circular element on the classic.
We even get the same flowering of orange with the side button. Indeed, the original report speculates that this new classic model could be a spiritual successor to the Galaxy Watch Ultra, or even a direct follow-up.

Other rumors specifications
It has been claimed that the regular Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 will also take this new square form, so this can now be the new standard for Samsung’s Smartwatch range now, regardless of the model.
Other specifications about the classic are a 1.5-inch display (still circular), a 450 mAh battery and a solitary option of 46 mm.
We expect to see the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 range announced next to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 for some time in July.
