CHICAGO — A Chicago man smiled broadly for his mug shot as prosecutors charged him with killing a man in the West Loop last month. Ashanti Randolph, 29, was restrained by Judge Caroline Glennon-Goodman during a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courthouse at 26th and California.

Shortly after the Sept. 1 shooting, CPD said a gunman fired shots from a car at three people standing in the 1000 block of West Lake at 1:19 a.m. A bullet struck 34-year-old Travis Bailey in the head and he died from his injuries. injuries.

Officials said Bailey and the other two people in his neighborhood were unarmed at the time of the shooting.

According to Judge Glennon-Goodman’s detention order, Randolph was seen on video getting out of the gunman’s car while wearing a Hellstar t-shirt. License plate readers placed Randolph’s black Audi in the area of ​​the shooting at the time of the murder, the judge wrote. Witnesses identified Randolph in video footage.

He is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault by discharging a firearm.
