A maniac was arrested for stabbing nine people in a series of random attacks over the course of two days in Seattle, Washington, according to police.
Seattle police say the unnamed suspect stabbed the victims over a 38-hour period in an area of about four blocks in the city’s Chinatown-International District.
The random stabbings sent four of the victims to Harborview Medical Center.
All of these patients entered the hospital in critical condition – and two remain in critical condition as of Friday evening. according to the Associated Press. One other casualty was upgraded to satisfactory and another to serious on Friday.
One of those victims, a 53-year-old man, was stabbed in the neck and bled profusely before being treated, according to police.
During their investigation, police followed a trail of blood left by the victim. according to SPD Blotter.
Seattle police say the attacker stabbed five people on Friday and is suspected in four more stabbings that took place in the same neighborhood on Thursday.
Deputy Chief Eric Barden cited similar suspect descriptions and crime profiles as reason to believe the same man was responsible for the attacks on both days, the AP said.
“This incident apparently involved one individual committing random attacks over a 38-hour period,” Barden said at the scene of the crime on Friday, according to the outlet.
SPD said they located the suspect based on witness descriptions. He was found with a gun nearby, the AP reported.
A 53-year-old woman, a 32-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were all stabbed multiple times in the Chinatown neighborhood on Thursday, according to police.
“The stabbings in Little Saigon and the Chinatown-International District are horrific and horrific and should not happen anywhere in our city,” Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell said. said in a statement.
“Everyone deserves to feel and be safe, and I remain committed to using all available resources to improve the safety of Little Saigon and the Historic Chinatown-International District for all residents, employees and visitors,” the wrote mayor.
A tenth stabbing Thursday evening could also be part of the madman’s attack. Police say an attacker tried to steal a phone from a 60-year-old man who was sitting in his car. The attacker swung the knife at the victim’s chest, but he was able to parry it with his hand.
