Occasionally I come across a product that almost immediately improves my life.
The Huawei Watch D2 is such a product. In a very short time it has persuaded me to wear only my previous favorite smartwatch, the Apple Watch series 10, during activities associated with greater wear (think, heavy sport or gardening).
The reason for my enthusiasm? This smartwatch can do something that cannot do any other portable, including the £ 799/$ 799 Apple Watch Ultra 2: Measure my blood pressure.

We are not talking about a setup such as Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 7 here, where you must first calibrate it using a cuff -based monitor.
No, this is a complete blood pressure monitor in itself, complete with a built -in cuff. Although not entirely the gold standard position of the upper arm, testing in our full assessment suggested impressive accuracy.
As a Huawei device, the D2 watch is not available in the US. But British buyers can buy one at Amazon for £ 349.99 – an impressively low price when you consider the technology that is on board.
And the importance of keeping an eye on your blood pressure cannot be overestimated. High blood pressure is one of the largest risk factors when our health comes in the long term. Recognizing changes that occur in the course of our lives is crucial.
Ingenious simple blood pressure measurements
The watch takes the measurement completely unobtrusive. The blood pressure measurement is quiet and only takes a few seconds. I don’t have to unpack and put on a blood pressure monitor, but just hold my wrist mounted smartwatch over my heart.
It is ingenious and discreet. And actually relatively accurate!

When our sister site PC-Gelach tested the original Huawei Watch D, who used the same technology as the D2, they quoted a German cardiologist who said he used the watch privately and was “satisfied” with the results.
Although it is not a medical device, the D2 watch is a great way to monitor your blood pressure without the need to use a special device.
The D2 watch can even check the blood pressure 24 hours a day and record it automatically at night, without having to do anything.
This ABPM measurement (outpatient blood pressure monitoring) offers an objective picture of my blood pressure that is not distorted by short-term influences. It works really impressively well. The next day I feel really good when I look at the blood pressure values of the previous night and know that my blood pressure is within the normal reach.

Excellent battery life
Blowing up the cuff naturally consumes the battery power. But although I measure my blood pressure several times a day and use a 24-hour ABPM measurement twice a week, a complete load easily takes a whole week. That is something Apple Watch users cannot even dream of.
Moreover, the battery can be charged relatively quickly. We went from 0-100% in just under an hour.
That. And the long -term battery can also be charged very quickly.
To ensure that my Huawei watch D2 actually delivers realistic value, I regularly take comparative measurements with high-quality blood pressure monitors from Beur.

It appears that the D2 watch usually displays slightly different values. But that is not a problem, because first of all, I can remember the difference with the values of the Breur -above arm blood pressure monitor and second, the values of the Huawei Watch D2 are close enough to reliably assess my blood pressure.
Whether I have 117 to 81 or 122 to 77 is not important. It is simply important to know that it is not 140 to 90 or even higher. And unlike the lake device of Beur -above arm, the nocturnal measurement during sleep gives me values that are not influenced by acute stress or excitement.
