Over Father’s Day weekend in Chicago, 42 people were shot across the city, a 100% increase from the same weekend last year, according to preliminary reports. The number of victims likely remained below 50 due to the rainy weather moving into the area, as no shootings were reported after 6:15 a.m. on Sunday.
In another disturbing benchmark, 26 people were shot in Chicago on Friday alone, the highest number of shooting victims in a single day since July 5, 2024. according to HeyJackass.coman independent website that collects and maintains crime statistics in Chicago.
Although this year’s Father’s Day weekend total is lower than the long-term average, the 100% year-over-year increase presents a challenge for Mayor Brandon Johnson, who is trying to sell the city on the idea that he has successfully reduced violent crime in the city.
Among CPD staff and reporters who cover the city’s crime rates, Father’s Day weekend has long been considered one of Chicago’s most violent weekends of the year, a reality that often surprises people unfamiliar with the city’s seasonal crime patterns. This year was no exception.
A mass shooting late Friday in Roseland accounted for nearly a third of the weekend’s shootings. At least two drive-by shooters fired more than a hundred bullets into a large crowd gathered in a parking lot, shooting twelve people. By sunrise on Saturday, Chicago had already recorded more shooting victims than during the entire Father’s Day weekend in 2025.
The attack happened shortly after 11 p.m. in the 200 block of West 95th Street. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found two victims at the scene: a 32-year-old woman with two gunshot wounds to her back and a 44-year-old man with four abrasions to his back. Both were transported to hospitals in good condition, according to CPD.
As officers secured the area, more and more victims arrived at hospitals in the city and suburbs. The number of shooting victims from the incident eventually rose to twelve, plus a thirteenth victim who refused treatment. CPD did not specify what type of injuries he suffered.
Witnesses told police that a red SUV drove next to a large crowd that had gathered on the block. Two gunmen then opened fire, one shooting from the driver’s side and the other from the passenger’s side. According to preliminary police information, the attackers fired dozens of bullets before fleeing eastbound on 95th Street. The CPD cordoned off the entire block between Yale and Princeton Avenues, where more than a hundred evidence markers covered the street and sidewalks, many identifying what appeared to be gun casings.

A man on the sidewalk was shot in the chest and right arm and transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition. No perpetrator data is available.
1:57 PM | 3800 block of W. Maypole
A 37-year-old man was in an apartment when an unknown assailant shot him in the right leg. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
17:02 | 11900 block of S. Michigan Ave.
A 29-year-old man standing near the sidewalk was approached by an SUV. At least one person inside pulled out a firearm and opened fire, hitting the victim multiple times in the body and face. He was transported to Roseland Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A 70-year-old man nearby was also struck by gunfire and suffered a leg wound. He was transported to Christian Hospital in stable condition.
5:14 PM | 3700 block of W. 30th St.
Officers found a 33-year-old man on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
8:54 PM | 7200 block of S. Dobson
Two men were walking outside when they heard a loud noise and felt pain. A 26-year-old man was shot in both legs, and a 28-year-old man was shot in the right arm and back. Both were transported to University of Chicago Hospital in serious condition. A weapon was found at the scene.
21:56 | 1100 block of N. Latrobe
Officers found an unconscious 34-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police spoke with a person of interest.
21:58 | 100 block of W. 75th St.
Officers found an unconscious 50-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to St. Bernard Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A weapon was found at the scene.
11:11 PM | 6700 block of S. Ada St.
A 32-year-old man standing outside heard loud noises and felt pain. He was shot in the left leg and transported to University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition.
June 20, 2026
12:15 pm | 500 block of E. 38th St.
A 37-year-old man was found with a gunshot wound to the neck. He was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A 31-year-old man was transported to St. Bernard Hospital with a gunshot wound to the knee. He was listed in fair condition and could not provide any details about the incident.
1:45 | 700 block of S. Independence Blvd.
A 20-year-old man was found on the ground with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Mount Sinai in critical condition.
3:04 | 7100 block of S. Yates Blvd.
A 51-year-old man was driving when he heard gunshots and felt pain. He was shot in the left arm and transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.
8:17 am | 6200 block of S. Campbell Ave.
A 47-year-old man was outside when an unknown assailant approached, opened fire and struck him in the right thigh. He was transported to Christian Hospital in fair condition.
9:30 am | 1000 block of W. 95th St.
A 29-year-old man was outside when he was shot once in the leg. He could not provide details about the incident and was transported to Little Company of Mary Hospital in good condition.
18:06 | 700 block of E. 47th St.
A verbal argument outside a business between a 15-year-old boy and an unknown man turned physical when the man pulled out a firearm and shot the boy in the chest. The victim was transported to Comer Children’s Hospital in fair condition.
19:02 | 200 block W. Pershing Rd.
A 49-year-old man standing next to a sidewalk was shot multiple times by an unknown assailant and transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in fair condition.
9:00 PM | 10800 block of S. Union
A 31-year-old man was walking towards his car when he heard gunshots. He got into his car and realized he had been shot in the right torso. He was transported to Roseland Hospital in good condition.
10:15 PM | 4800 block of W. Quincy
An 18-year-old man was shot in the armpit and transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. A witness told officers that the perpetrator was still at the scene, and officers took a 17-year-old boy into custody. A weapon was recovered. Charges were pending. Police say the incident appears to be domestic-related.

A man, approximately 40 years old, walked into the University of Chicago Hospital with a gunshot wound to the torso. He was admitted in critical condition.

A 36-year-old woman was standing on the street during a meeting when she heard shots coming from a gray sedan as it drove away. She felt pain and realized she had been shot twice in the leg. She was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.
4:08 am | 4700 block of S. Rockwell St.
A 17-year-old boy was sitting in a vehicle when two unknown assailants approached on a motorcycle, opened fire and shot him in the chest. He was transported to University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition.
5:30 am | 11600 block of S. Elizabeth St.
A 22-year-old woman was inside a home when an unknown man approached the building from outside, pulled out a firearm and opened fire. She was shot once in the right leg and transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in fair condition. The perpetrator fled in a black SUV.
06:15 am | 5500 block of S. Princeton Ave.
A 21-year-old man was standing outside when he was approached with a firearm by unknown perpetrators. He was shot in the chest and transported to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
8:49 am | 0-100 block of W. 95th St.
Three vehicles traveling northbound on the Dan Ryan Expressway opened fire, hitting the windows of a nearby train. A 46-year-old man on board the train was struck in the face and body by broken glass. He was transported to Trinity Hospital in good condition. The vehicles fled the scene.
11:30 PM | 1400 block of S. Christiana
Officers were already at the scene of a large gathering when a crowd began running and gunshots rang out. A 19-year-old man approached officers and said he had been shot; he was found with wounds to the groin and forearm and transported to Mount Sinai in serious condition. A 19-year-old woman was self-transported to Mount Sinai with a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was in good condition. An 18-year-old woman was found at the scene a short time later with a gunshot wound to the buttocks and was also transported to Mount Sinai in good condition. Due to the large crowd, officers were unable to locate the perpetrators.
