Five people robbed a man on the lakeshore and shot him during the robbery early Sunday, police said. The victim was not injured, but the group made off with his wallet and phone. The incident may be gang related.
At approximately 3:37 a.m., officers responded to shots fired near the lakefront on Fullerton Avenue but did not find anyone in distress. About 20 minutes later, a man stopped a tow truck driver and asked him to call 911, saying he had been robbed.
The 25-year-old victim told police he had been approached by five unknown assailants who forcibly took his belongings, a Chicago police spokesman said. One of the perpetrators then fired a shot at the victim, but no one was hit.
An officer on the scene said the victim had seen the group on the beach earlier and believed they may have been members of the Satan Disciples gang. He described the group as Hispanic men between the ages of 18 and 24, one of whom was wearing a yellow shirt. No arrests have been reported.
