Silliness and style take top honors at the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2024 – Colossal

A red squirrel diving headlong into a tree wins the 2024 top prize Nikon Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards (previously), taken by Italian photographer Milko Marchetti. “He’s been sitting on this beauty of a photo for a few years now and decided this year was the year to take part,” organizers say. “We’re glad he did because this little red squirrel just went and won the whole game!”

Other category winners and critically acclaimed images include a beady-eyed ‘mafia boss’ by Takashi Kubo, a confused eagle by Tapani Linnanmäki and a festive praying mantis by Jose Miguel Gallego Molina.
