San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich didn’t hold back as he slammed “pathetic” Donald Trump and his “bully”-like qualities in a lengthy pre-game rant during a press conference on Saturday.
Popovich, who described the former president as a “small” and “damaged man,” called out Republicans for supporting him while knowing “he’s an ass.”
“They’ve called him xenophobic, a religious bigot, a racist, unfit for office, on and on and on. Their words but they’re right there with him,” said the coaching icon, an outspoken Trump critic.
“Do they not know that they have children and grandchildren, probably, that are gonna lose freedom if this guy is elected? I’m not talking about a policy, I’m talking about the idea of our country.”
Popovich, earlier in his remarks, dubbed the GOP nominee the “biggest whiner who ever walked the face of the earth.”
“I mean, he’s like the poorest example of a fifth-grade bully I’ve ever seen. I mean, I just — would you want your kids to act like he does?” he asked.
Popovich continued to mock Trump for throwing up “excuses” on the campaign trail.
″[He’s like,] ‘Everybody’s come after me, everybody, this, that and the other. I’m doing this for you. Poor me, poor me. Whine, whine, whine.’ And you look at it, the election that he lost and he continues to lie about it,” Popovich said.
Popovich later pointed to his grandchildren and asked if he’d want the former president to be an “example” for them when things don’t go well.
“Like everybody in this room, you know, hopefully all of us taught our children, ‘You’re not gonna win all the time but when you win, be humble. When you lose, do it with grace.’ We all do that. He doesn’t do that,” he said in a nod to Trump’s 2020 election loss.

“And so you wonder, all the people who support him, would they want him to teach their kids?”
