Chicago – Street takeovers of stunt drivers and spectators who take over intersections have been causing a headache in Chicago for several years. Although whole social media pages are dedicated to sharing videos of the events, it is rare to see images of the Chicago police aggressively tackle a takeover.
Today we share some videos that show exactly that: cops that roll in a takeover in Lincoln Park, throw tires deflation sticks under the tires of escaping cars and making arrests.
The images of the acquisition of 2 March are from a city monitoring camera mounted on a pole on the corner of Fullerton and Cannon Drive, right next to Lincoln Park Zoo. It shows the entire event, from the arrival of the first participant to be taken away in squadron cars.
In the video, which we have shared below, a sports car driver pulls on the side of Fullerton around 1:20 am and comes out to ensure that his license plate is covered so that the police cannot see it. He then does a U-turn and he becomes the first driver to run Donuts at the intersection.
A caravan of spectators and extra drivers participate.
At one point, a fan pours a large circle of gasoline in the middle of the intersection. Spectators rush to get into the ring of fuel, and one of them sets fire. Drivers start turning circles around the crowd, which is surrounded by flames.
One of the drivers counts and hits the crowd and hits something on the ground. The pants of a fallen spectator are set on fire. After the fire has burned out, a second ring of gasoline is cast. But there will be no time to light it because the police are starting to arrive.
Officers jump out of their cars with bars with “stopsticks”. They throw the sticks under the tires of fleeing cars, which will soon roll on flats. Other officers get participants from vehicles on Fullerton Avenue and buoy them. One driver distracts to the cycle path to bypass around the police.
In the end, only two people were brought into the station: Oshea Rosenthall, 26, from Kankakee, and Elija Perez, 18, Van Oswego. Prosecutors said that Perez Donuts spun in his Genesis Coupe 2013, and Rosenthall was the driver who hit the fire -circled pedestrians with his Dodge Charger.
Here is an extensive clip of the video of the city, which CWBCHICAGO has provided through a public register request:
